One of several Pocono's garlic growers answering questions on his product.
Here we have the gang from Rolling Hills farms displaying their wares. Rolling Hills garlic was voted the best tasting garlic in a study done by Rodale Press.
Another view at the Rolling Hills farms stand. Yes, we did buy some garlic here.
Here's Barb looking over the garlic decorations at the Rolling Hills stand. The arrangements of "the stinking rose" were priced at $5 except for the large displays. Look at the size of that one on the right!.
Barb scores an arm full of garlic from Mountaindale Farm. They featured three varieties of hard stem garlic including German White, Rocambole and Music. We really like their garlic!
We tried to support all the garlic vendors that day. Here is Dave picking some rocambole out from another farm.
Barb picks out a string of garlic from another farm. The wrapping on these was neat, but they were selling out fast. Large bulbs were mostly sold out before lunch and food was going fast.
Barb fights her way in for some food. This vendor was selling "roasted garlic and potato chowder". It was awesome! They ran out of it about 11:15 and we waited over an hour to get some. There was probably ten servings left when Barb got these. She thrusts the money at the vendor and grabs some chowder.
On to Bowers and James Weaver's Meadow View Farm for Pepper Days 1999. Here we have a lovely round quilted tablecloth made with chile pepper fabric This thing was huge!. This was displayed along with a quilt in the one greenhouse. Alma also had samples of all the hot pepper jellies, heirloom tomato sauce and some home made chili for sale. The chili was delicious but rather mild.
Outstanding in her field, we find Barb checking out some of the chiles on a really nice growing plant. Other plants looked good too and we bought chiles, tomatoes and eggplant.
In another row Barb located theses really nice chiles with no name, just a number. They resembled scotch bonnets or habaneros so we got some. They are in the dehydrator now.
Let's all at meet at Red Lion Spicy Foods!. Chip is showing his wares as the chile-heads arrive.
We got your jalapenos, pepperoncinis, red scotch bonnets, yellow scotch bonnets, habaneros, and more. Enough chiles to keep many of us happy.
At the front of the booth, Karen, Doug and Andy try to score some fresh samples!
You know, there are some things that just beg to have their photo taken, like this demijohn of pickled chiles. I'll stick with filling pints, quarts or fifths!
The gang is all here! L-R are Doug, Rich, Andy, Chip, Tammy, Jeff, Karen, Dave and Mark. The only one missing for the group was Barb, who was more than willing to take the all the group photos. Although Barb is a chile-head, she normally does not read the list so felt she was more of a "guest". Anyone have any photos of her at the festival?
Andy Barnhart to the rescue with this photo of Barb and I at the festival. At least we are both visible! We both had a good time meeting the other chile-heads at the festival and hope we can do it in 2000.
